History and Intent
The Metro Alliance for Animal Life was officially formed in 2007 to promote the No-Kill ethic by developing services, programs and initiatives that will assist its members as they work jointly to end the euthanasia of adoptable and treatable animals and endeavor to decrease the number of homeless, neglected, relinquished, and abused animals throughout the greater Oklahoma City Metropolitan area. The Alliance strives to serve as a resource to the community and its leadership, with a purpose of contributing toward the development of public policies that advance the objectives of saving animal lives, of reducing animal control and sheltering costs over time, and of promoting the greater Oklahoma City area as a humane community.
Why Do We Exist?
- To work together to promote and achieve the "No-Kill" ethic in Central Oklahoma:
- Eliminate the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets.
- Achieve major reductions in pet overpopulation, while decreasing related problems.
- To promote the humane treatment of animals and awareness of animal welfare issues.
- To support the needs of local shelters and sanctuaries.
- To enhance resources, funding, and programs to improve and maintain services and facilities.
Potential Municipal & Community Benefits
- Fewer strays in neighborhoods means fewer dog attacks and safer neighborhoods.
- Metro animal shelters will benefit from shared experiences, increased public commitment, and expanded connections with rescue groups.
- Reduced animal populations, increased community involvement and volunteerism, and other improvements will result in significant cost savings for the community.
- By working together, we will be able to apply to major private funding sources to aid in our unified goal of achieving a "No-Kill" environment in Central Oklahoma.
- Increase in quality of shelter work environment will
improve staff morale and reduce turnover.
